Since I'm still figuring this out, it's not hard to get blown out to sea. Are there any non-ocean launches in SE NC (Wilmington/CapeFear/Carolina Beach) where a N to NW wind isn't directly offshore?

I hope to get a collective diagnosis of why - in my 2nd season - I find myself cussing and worn out after what should be a good ride, judging by the sailors around me.

The Cape Fear is generally a good place if there's wind. In Southport, I'd suggest going to the N side of town and letting in on the Cape Fear estuary itself rather than closer to the Bald Head Island ...

Yes... in the Winter... and only really on the back of cold fronts in the warm season. I was out in >20kts in August (notoroiusly calm) at Ft. Fisher. Are you trying to go off-shore?

Im 185lbs, the board is ~70 cm wide, and the fin? Well, I dont know for sure but it does have a daggerboard.
