Nothing in the previous comments indicates that line length had anything to do with the boom breaking... nothing. I'd bet that the amount of force seen by a boom with long lines in the same place and ...

This is what happened when I sailed the gorge with long lines overpowered, boom breaks instead of going over the handle bars

UpThis Palokows rig from last November 8-12 knots 12 foot hawaiian waves. He was riding the boom pretty low pretty sure those are 34's. Deleted the orignal photo but had a screen shot
