Planing in 8kt for heavier sailors is expert territory - you shouldn't expect it. 14 is very realistic on an 8.5 Lion though.
You mention the Starboard Futura and that would be an excellent choice ... |

Fastest is Turpentine. Mineral spirits will work but Turps just dissolves the stuff instantly and is safe for the monofilm. |
