...the national weather service in grand rapids has issued a flood 
warning for the following rivers in southwest lower michigan...

  battle creek at battle creek affecting calhoun county

.runoff from recent heavy rainfall continues to cause a rapid rise of water
on battle creek. the flood advisory has been upgraded to a flood warning
with the creek expected to crest this afternoon. additional rainfall late
tonight and friday morning is expected to be light and should not have an
impact on river levels.

the following forecast is based on observed and forecast 48 hour 
precipitation.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

safety message...even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock 
you off your feet... and a depth of 2 feet will float your car.  
never try to walk... swim... or drive through such swift water.  if 
you come upon flood waters... stop... turn around and go another way.


this warning will be in effect until the river falls below its flood 
stage.

the national weather service in grand rapids has issued a 

* flood warning for 
  the battle creek at battle creek.
* from this morning to late friday night.
* at  6:15 am thursday the stage was 3.8 feet.
* flood stage is 4.0 feet.
* minor flooding is forecast.
* forecast, rise above flood stage by late this morning and continue 
  to rise to near 4.1 feet by this afternoon. the river will fall 
  below flood stage by tomorrow early afternoon.
* impact, at 4.0 feet...expect minor flooding of city park and 
  basement flooding of homes in union street area. parking lots of 
  commercial interests along elm and union streets will flood.
* flood history, this crest compares to a previous crest of 4.2 feet 
  on mar 21 1948.

the national weather service in milwaukee/sullivan has issued a 

* flood warning for 
  the milwaukee river near cedarburg.
* at  5:00 am thursday the stage was 11.1 feet.
* flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* forecast...the river will continue rising to near 11.2 feet by this
  afternoon. the river will fall below flood stage early tomorrow.
* impact...at 11.1 feet...floodwaters approach some homes along klug 
  lane and just south of highway c. about 2 1/2 miles downstream, 
  water approaches some homes along island drive and shoreland 
  parkway in the mequon area.  this level is the 20 percent chance 
  flood meaning that there is a 20 percent chance of the river 
  reaching this level in any given year.
