the national weather service in albany has issued a winter
weather advisory for snow...sleet and freezing rain...which is in
effect from 3 pm tuesday to 10 am est wednesday.
* locations...eastern new york and adjacent western new england.
* hazard types...snow...sleet and freezing rain.
* accumulations...snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 6 inches
with the highest accumulations northwest and the lowest
accumulations southeast...along with up to a tenth of an inch
of ice accretion.
* snowfall rates...up to half an inch an hour.
* timing...beginning as snow late tuesday afternoon and then
transitioning to sleet and freezing rain from southeast to
northwest during the late evening and overnight hours before
tapering off wednesday morning.
* impacts...hazardous travel conditions due to snow and ice
covered roads.
* visibilities...as low as one half mile.
* winds...south 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
* temperatures...in the mid 20s to lower 30s.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a winter weather advisory means that periods of snow...sleet...or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while
driving.

weather advisory for snow...freezing rain and sleet...which is in
effect from 3 pm tuesday to 7 am est wednesday.
* locations...central new york and northeast pennsylvania.
* hazards...snow... freezing rain... and sleet.
* accumulations...2 to 4 inches of snow... followed by up to a
quarter of an inch of ice.
* timing...snow starting tuesday afternoon then transitioning over
to a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet during the early
evening and lasting through the overnight.
* temperatures...in the upper 20s.
* winds...south 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
* impacts...untreated roads will become hazardous. isolated power
outages may occur due to the combination of ice and gusty winds.

snow will develop around mid afternoon tuesday then change to
a wintry mix tuesday night.
* hazards...a mix of snow...sleet...and freezing rain.
* accumulations...snow accumulating 2 to 4 inches...with up to 5
inches across the higher terrain. ice accumulation of up to a
tenth of an inch.
* visibilities...less than a mile at times.
* impacts...snow changing to a wintry mix will result in very
slippery conditions on untreated roads...sidewalks...and
parking lots. roads may be very slushy and slippery for the
tuesday evening commute.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a winter weather advisory is normally issued for a variety of
winter weather conditions such as snow...sleet and freezing rain.
