...gale watch in effect from thursday morning through evening...

.light southwesterly flow this evening veers to westerly by early
wednesday as high pressure lifts through ohio valley. deepening low
pressure will then lift from the central plains on thursday morning
to near the straits on thursday night. southerly flow out ahead of
the warm front will allow for an unstable thermal profile over the
lake huron allowing for gusts to reach low-to-mid end gales over the
open waters in the central and southern parts of the lake. a gale
watch will be in place from 15z thursday to 03z friday for those
areas. near-gale strength gusts will occur over the northern part of
the lake but doesn't look to be for more than a hour or two. once
the warm air moves over the lake, there should be a stabilization of
the thermal profile reducing wind speed potentials. southwesterly
flow thursday evening veers to northwesterly early friday morning as
the cold front moves across the lake. this will destabilize the
thermal profile again. though models aren't showing as strong of
winds compared to the winds thursday afternoon as the pressure
gradient is weaker by that point. however, gusts to low-end gales
are possible through friday morning. winds and waves will likewise
rise to small craft advisory levels for the nearshore zones for both
unstable time windows mentioned.

broad weak high pressure will follow easing winds over the lakes
late friday into the beginning of the weekend.
