...dense fog advisory remains in effect until 6 am est thursday...
...gale watch remains in effect from thursday evening through
friday morning...
dense fog advisory information...
* visibility...dense sea fog will frequently reduce visibility to
less than 1 nm. there will be pockets that further reduce
visibility to near zero nm at times.
* impacts...the low visibility will make for treacherous
navigating conditions across the area waters...especially when
traversing the intra-coastal waterway and local area inlets to
and from the open waters of the atlantic.
the use of coast guard aids to navigation...depth
finders...gps...and spot lights...are a few of the available
instruments to aid you when encountering the fog.
gale watch information...
* winds...after the arctic frontal passage early thursday evening
...winds will become northerly and increase to 20 to 30 kt with
occasional gusts over 35 kt.
* seas...will build to 4 to 8 feet thursday night into daytime
friday. the highest seas will occur across the outer waters off
cape fear and cape romain. dominant periods will range from 5 to
7 seconds.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a dense fog advisory over the area waters means visibilities will
frequently be reduced to less than one mile. inexperienced
mariners...especially those operating smaller vessels should
avoid navigating in these conditions.
a gale watch is issued when the risk of sustained or frequent
gusts to gale force...speeds of 34 to 47 knots...has
significantly increased...but the specific timing and or location
is still uncertain. it is intended to provide additional lead
time for mariners who may wish to consider altering their plans.

...dense fog advisory remains in effect until 6 am est thursday...
...gale warning in effect from 5 pm thursday to 10 am est
friday...
the national weather service in newport/morehead city has issued
a gale warning...which is in effect from 5 pm thursday to 10 am
est friday. the small craft advisory is no longer in effect.
* winds...northwest 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 40 kt.
* seas...7 to 12 feet.
* visibility...1/2 mile.

experience and properly equipped vessels. it is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
