302 pm edt tue sep 23 2014
the national weather service in melbourne has issued an
* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
southern brevard county in florida...
this includes the cities of...melbourne beach...palm bay...
melbourne...malabar...grant...barefoot bay...
* until 500 pm edt.
* at 258 pm edt...weather service doppler radar indicated very heavy
rain with showers and thunderstorms across southern brevard county.
the showers and storms were moving northeast at 15 mph. rainfall
amounts of one to two inches have fallen from palm bay to malabar
since early afternoon. additional rainfall amounts of one to two
inches will bring rainfall totals to two to four inches across
southern portions of brevard county where flooded roadways and minor
flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas is expected.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
motorists should deactivate cruise control and slow down in heavy
rainfall to reduce the risk of hydroplaning. leave safe distance
between other vehicles.
do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.
