...gusty winds expected across much of southwest california today
and tonight...

.a strong frontal system will move across the region today. areas
of gusty south winds will affect much of the area today ahead of
the front. behind the front...expect gusty west winds through
this evening in many areas...except through late tonight in
coastal sections of los angeles...ventura and southern santa
barbara counties and the antelope valley.

damaging wind gusts are expected in the mountains of san luis
obispo and santa barbara counties. strong and damaging winds are
expected in the los angeles and ventura county mountains as
well...and those are covered in the winter storm warning.

the combination of strong winds and wet soils will likely cause
some trees to be knocked down across the region.

another storm system could bring even stronger winds sunday.

...high wind warning remains in effect until 6 pm pst this

* winds and timing...south winds will increase to 25 to 40 mph 
  with gusts to 65 mph this morning...then shift to southwest to 
  west this afternoon. winds will begin to diminish some by 
  evening. however...wind gusts to 50 mph may continue through 
  late tonight and wind advisories may be required once the high 
  wind warnings expire. 

* impacts...strong winds can make driving difficult...especially 
  for drivers of high profile vehicles and vehicles towing 
  trailers. winds this strong may down trees and power lines... 
  and cause property damage. 

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a high wind warning means that damaging high winds of 58 mph or
greater are likely or imminent. secure all loose outdoor
furniture in advance of the onset of strong winds. monitor the
latest forecasts on noaa weather radio or your favorite media
