New iWindsurf: Select your region for wind observations & forecasts:
North America | Europe | South America | Australia & Oceania | Asia | Africa

iWindsurf has recently added this sensor station following the recommendation of local sailors who watch it closely. The iW forecast team is well aware of the frequent and rapid shifts of wind at Maryhill, Rufus and The Wall. This sensor reports data from the John Day Dam which is located just a few miles east of Rufus. We feel that it may be of some assistance in determining how well winds have filled into the region.

So use this sensor from time to time to help sanity check actual conditions on the river. It's positioned several hundred feet ABOVE the river and winds are certainly effected to some degree by the surrounding structure. But we feel that it has potential to help sailors determine whether the wind has the correct angle and strength to fill in highly used sites like the Wall and Rufus.
