This site is also known as Rock Creek. The launch site is just west of the Mosier overpass and is accessed by looping back under it. The road down into the creek bed is somewhat rough, a high clearance vehicle is recommended. The lot is also very rough. The launch is mostly rock so booties or sandals are recommended for entry and exit. The river is wide with a small swell most of the time. The wind and the swell are on the north shore of the river. Watch out for fishing nets and barges.
Updated June 2002
The Rock Creek Launch at Mosier was greatly improve during the 2001 and 2002 winter. A smoothed out parking area, a nature trail, super cool art work, and a host of other improvements have made this one of the best sail sites in the gorge. The launch is located just west of the Mosier overpass and is accessed by looping back under it. Although the access road has been improved, it can still be rough going so a high clearence vehicle is recomended. The solid west wind makes for good bump and jump sailing on this wide section of the Columbia. Watch out for fishing nets to the east of the launch, barges and beginners close to shore. Parking fee: $2 daily / $20 annual.
