rip current risk: low risk. marine conditions do not support the
development of rip currents. however, rip currents
are possible, especially in the vicinity of the south
padre island jetty. know how to swim and heed the
                       advice of the beach patrol.

ultraviolet index: extreme. wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses,
and use sunscreen of spf 15 or higher. remain in
                       the shade if possible.

weather: mostly sunny.

temperatures: highs near 90.

wind: east southeast around 10 mph.

wave heights: 2 to 3 feet.

surf temperature: 80 degrees.

bay temperature: 83 degrees.

tides: a high at 6 04 am. a low at 12 30 pm.
                       a high at 7 23 pm.

outlook: the low risk of rip currents is expected to
continue friday. increasing south winds will
build wave heights...resulting in a moderate
                       rip current risk this weekend.

...high surf advisory for south facing shores...

surf along south facing shores will be 6 to 10 feet the rest of
this afternoon and 6 to 9 feet saturday.

surf along east facing shores will be 4 to 7 feet the rest of this
afternoon and 4 to 6 feet saturday.

surf along west facing shores will be 3 to 6 feet through saturday.

surf along north facing shores will be 1 to 3 feet through saturday.

outlook through friday september 5:
the long period swell from once tropical cyclone marie is smaller
than expected...thus the high surf advisory for the east facing
shores is canceled. however...due to the long period of 15 seconds
and sufficient height...the surf will be slightly elevated there
through the weekend. the south facing shore continues at high surf
advisory level this afternoon and is expected to stay at this level
through saturday before subsiding slowly through the rest of the
weekend. the south facing shores will have more wave action next
week with a moderate size long period swell on tap for tuesday and
wednesday.

surf heights are forecast heights of the face or front of waves. the
surf forecast is based on the significant wave height...the average
height of the one third largest waves...in the zone of maximum
refraction. some waves may be more than twice as high as the
significant wave height. expect to encounter rip currents in or near
any surf zone.
