.outlook (days 3-5)...
offshore winds will diminish on tuesday..then return late wednesday
as high pressure moves east. below normal temperatures are expected
behind the front tuesday and wednesday...with a gradual warm up on
thursday.
* a low risk of rip currents means that any rip currents that do
form are likely to be weak but still may pose a danger to poor
swimmers. research has shown rip currents are typically more
frequent in the vicinity of jetties...inlets...and piers and
these can be quite strong on days where the overall rip current
threat is low...especially if strong southerly or northeasterly
winds exist.
* wave height and period forecasts are representative of deep ocean
waves over the offshore waters...not surf conditions.

current. entering the surf above your knees will be dangerous today.

in addition to rough surf...numerous strong rip currents are
expected again today. there will also be an increasing longshore
current flowing from south to north today. with the surf being rough
once again today...large breaking waves could knock you off your
feet and make you more susceptible to becoming caught in a rip
current. entering the surf above your knees will be dangerous today.
given the rough surf conditions...beach goers are strongly advised
to get additional information on ocean hazards from the beach patrol.
if you decide to enter the water...swim only within sight of a
lifeguard...and never swim alone.
outlook for monday...partly cloudy. a slight chance of showers in
the morning...then a slight chance of afternoon showers and
thunderstorms. highs in the lower 80s. south winds 5 to 10 mph.
chance of rain 20 percent.

surf along north facing shores will be 8 to 12 feet this morning and
then increase to 10 to 14 feet from this afternoon into monday.
surf along west facing shores will be 5 to 8 feet through monday.
surf along east facing shores will be 2 to 4 feet through monday.
surf along south facing shores will be 1 to 2 feet through monday.
outlook through saturday november 29:
a north-northwest swell arriving this morning will build slowly and
produce near advisory-level surf from tonight into tuesday. the
swell will diminish tuesday night into wednesday. east-shore surf
will decline today as winds diminish. trade winds then will
restrengthen monday and tuesday behind a front...leading to rough
surf again along east-facing shores. a north- to north-northeast
swell may arrive late wednesday night and then diminish gradually
into next weekend. it may produce low-end advisory-level surf on its
arrival into thursday afternoon.
surf heights are forecast heights of the face or front of waves. the
surf forecast is based on the significant wave height...the average
height of the one third largest waves...in the zone of maximum
refraction. some waves may be more than twice as high as the
significant wave height. expect to encounter rip currents in or near
any surf zone.
