the national weather service in amarillo has issued a red flag
warning...which is in effect from 1 pm this afternoon to 10 pm
cdt this evening. the fire weather watch is no longer in effect.
* affected area: in oklahoma...cimarron...texas...beaver. in
texas...dallam...sherman...hansford...ochiltree...hartley...
moore...hutchinson...roberts...oldham...potter...carson...
gray...deaf smith...randall...armstrong...donley.
* wind: south and southwest winds between 20 and 25 mph with
higher gusts.
* humidity: minimum relative humidity values between 6 and 15
percent.
* timing: critical fire weather conditions are expected to
develop early saturday afternoon and continue through
saturday evening.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
relative humidities of 15 percent or less...sustained 20 foot
winds of 20 mph or greater...and an elevated fire danger rating

new mexico...south central new mexico and far west texas...
.winds aloft will continue to strengthen ahead
of a strong upper level trough forecast to move through the
region on saturday. mix down of these winds will combine with a
tightening pressure gradient over our area...as surface low
pressure develops over the western high plains. this should
result in 20 foot sustained wind speeds expected to exceed 20 mph
saturday afternoon and early saturday evening.
