...strong thunderstorms approaching the waters...

at 442 pm edt...national weather service doppler radar indicated 
thunderstorms...capable of producing gusty winds up to 30 kt...over 
bull breakers...or about 4 nm north of capers reef...moving east at 
25 kt.

marine locations in and around cape romain buoy and cape romain reef
will be impacted through 615 pm edt.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect. due to the potential 
for hazardous should head for safe port now. if you 
are already located in a safe harbor...remain there until the threat 
for thunderstorms has passed.

if thunderstorms intensify...special marine warnings may be required.
special marine warnings are issued for thunderstorm wind gusts of 34
knots or greater...penny sized hail or larger...and waterspouts.
continue to monitor noaa weather radio all hazards and coast guard
broadcasts for the latest forecasts...warnings and statements from
the national weather service office in charleston.

  coastal waters from edisto beach sc to savannah ga out 20 nm...
  coastal waters from south santee river to edisto beach sc out 20

at 436 pm edt...radar indicated that the thunderstorms that prompted
the warning had weakened...thus the special marine warning has been

although thunderstorms have moved out of the region for now...a 
severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 9 pm...and 
additional strong thunderstorms are possible. if possible...head for 
safe harbor now. if you are located in a safe port...remain there

...scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms at times through
this afternoon over the coastal waters...

scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue into
the afternoon.

at 945 am pdt there was cluster of thunderstorms just to the west of 
catalina island and extending about 35 nm to the west. these 
thunderstorms were nearly stationary.

locally strong and gusty winds should be expected near any
showers and deadly lightning can strike up to ten miles away from
thunderstorms. waterspouts and brief heavy rainfall can also
develop with thunderstorms.

mariners should take proper precautions and consider remaining in
safe harbor until the storms diminish. check conditions and
forecasts frequently and stay tuned to the national weather
service for possible special marine warnings.
