...thunderstorms with frequent lighting over the florida straits...
at 830 pm...weather service doppler radar indicated a line of showers
and thunderstorms stretching across the lower florida straits.
motion of this activity is consistently northward at around 18 knots.
through 945 pm... mariners should prepare for these storms. the
strongest storms may create wind gusts to 30 knots...frequent to
continuous lightning strikes...locally rough seas...and blinding
downpours with reduced visibility to 1 mile or less at times.
thunderstorms pose a variety of threats to boater safety from both
gusty winds and lightning. your best course of action during
thunderstorms is to seek safe harbor...but if you are caught on the
open water...stay below deck...if possible...and away from ungrounded
metal objects.
