...the national weather service in amarillo has issued a flood
warning for the following rivers in texas...
prairie dog town fork red river near wayside 13ne affecting
armstrong county
.a thunderstorm which moved over the river produced an estimated 3
to 4 inhces of rain. this has caused a rise on the river.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
do not drive vehicles through flooded areas.
know your location in relation to creeks and rivers that can become
killers in heavy rains. do not attempt to drive through rising water.
do not cross areas where water is flowing...even on foot. rapidly
flowing water can quickly sweep you off your feet.

the page. the advanced hydrologic prediction service page provides
current and forecast river information...gage locations...impacts...
and historical crest information for all forecast points by clicking
on each point.

the national weather service in amarillo has issued a
* flood warning for
the prairie dog town fork red river near wayside 13ne.
* until friday morning...or until the warning is cancelled.
* at 5:00 pm thursday the stage was 9.3 feet.
* minor flooding is forecast.
* flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* forecast...rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and
continue to rise to near 10.9 feet by this evening.the river will
fall below flood stage by 9 pm tonight.
* impact...at 10.0 feet...ranch and farm land within the flood plain
begins to flood. cattle in the flood plain are threatened
* flood history...this crest compares to a previous crest of 10.0 feet
on may 1 1999.

the national weather service in juneau has issued a
* flood warning for...
a glacier-dammed lake outburst...
around mendenhall river in the central inner channels...
* until 815 am akdt saturday
* at 815 am akdt...river gauge reports indicate a glacier-dammed lake
outburst flood on the mendenhall river. the added water from the
glacier-dammed lake into the river system will result in continued
river rises for the next 2 days. estimated suicide basin lake level
prior to release indicates that mendenhall river could see similar
levels to the 2014 record event of 11.85 feet.
* for the mendenhall river:
at 815 am akdt the stage was 6.0 feet.
flood stage is 9.0 feet.
forecast crest: 11.50 feet around 10 pm on july 1. inherent uncertainty
in initial glacial lake volume will result in varying crest height
and timing with a chance of exceeding record levels.
impacts: at 9.1 feet: water covers west glacier spur road between skaters cabin
and west glacier trailhead, also water will flow into the mendenhall lake
at 10.0 feet: water levels will inundate mendenhall campground with up to
3 feet of water covering low areas along with up to 1.5 feet of water
covering west glacier spur road. portions of west glacier trail will be impassable.
at 11.0 feet: view drive will be flooded and impassable with significant flooding
to some homes in the area.

if you live near or along mendenhall river stay alert and be prepared to take action.
the cold water temperatures can increase the threat of hypothermia
and lower the time required to cause hypothermia.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. all
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
