.heavy rainfall during the late morning and early afternoon
briefly pushed the middle fork of the whitewater river near
whitewater park above flood stage. however, the river has
since crested and fallen below flood. while water levels
will remain high into sunday, the river is now expected to
remain below flood stage.
river forecasts take into account both observed and forecast
precipitation.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
do not drive cars into flooded areas. remember, it only takes two
feet of water to float most automobiles, including sport utility
vehicles. turn around, don't drown!

* flood stage is 13.5 feet.
* fell below flood stage at 1:26 pm saturday.

...the urban and small stream flood advisory remains in effect until
600 am cdt for southwestern manitowoc and calumet counties...
at 452 am cdt...doppler radar indicated that the main cluster of
thunderstorms that produced the heavy rain was moving out over lake
michigan. scattered showers and a few thunderstorms lingered in it/s
wake. radar estimates indicate that up to 2 and one half inches of
rain fell over far southern calument and manitowoc counties.
additional rainfalls will be much lighter...but it will take a
little while for any standing water to recede. so the urban and
small stream flood advisory remains in effect until 600 am.
some locations that will experience flooding include...
manitowoc...chilton...cleveland...valders...st. nazianz...st anna...
central lake winnebago...northern lake winnebago...harrison and kiel.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

the national weather service in grand rapids has issued a
* flood advisory for...
muskegon county in west central michigan...
ottawa county in southwestern michigan...
oceana county in west central michigan...
* until 630 pm edt sunday
* at 635 am edt...doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with very
heavy rain from near stony lake southward through muskegon to just
west of grand haven. additional storms extended out over lake
michigan. the storms were tracking east at 20 mph. thus several
hours of heavy rain may result. this will cause minor flooding in
the advisory area.
* hourly rainfall rates could top an inch per hour. it is likely
that some locations will see in excess of 2 inches of rain before
the heavy rain ends later this morning.
* some locations that will experience flooding include...
muskegon... holland... grand haven...
hart... walker... shelby...
muskegon heights... hudsonville... zeeland...
coopersville... roosevelt park... north muskegon...

excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas...highways...streets and underpasses as well as other

county
.heavy rainfall in excess of three inches fell across and portions of
the river basin late saturday afternoon and evening. this will result
in rapid rises on the river overnight.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
safety message...if you encounter a flooded roadway...turn around and
find an alternate route.

the national weather service in fairbanks has extended the
* flood advisory for...
the tanana river at fairbanks...
* until 415 pm akdt monday
* several inches of rain over the past few days has caused the
tanana river to rise to bankfull stage. as a result the ground
water table has risen...causing ponding of water in low lying
areas. this has particularly impacted the area downstream of the
confluence of the chena and tanana rivers.
* water levels on the tanana are expected to rise through monday and
remain high into next week.
* the rising groundwater may make some roads and driveways in the
rosie creek subdivision impassable. some areas impacted include:
rosie creek...melanie lane...baurick court...perkins drive and
frustration trail.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.

...the flood advisory remains in effect until 245 pm akdt sunday for
the chena river from the moose creek dam upstream...
the chena river remains at bankfull and above flood stage in
some locations...but is falling from near hunts creek upstream.
the chena river at the granite tors campground has fallen to
20.0 feet which is 0.5 foot above minor flood stage. the chena
river at the granite tors campground is expected to fall to below
flood stage around noon today.
the crest on the chena river has moved downstream from hunts creek.
the chena river near hunts creek is expected to fall to below
minor flood stage later this morning.
at the moose creek dam...the water level remains at 24.8 feet which
is 0.3 foot above minor flood stage. the water is expected to remain
at that level through the weekend. water has inundated many of the
river access roads in the chena river recreation area...the stiles
creek shooting range...and the compeau trailhead.
in the steamboat landing subdivision in north pole...water levels
are expected to remain at minor flood stage through the weekend.
several inches of water will continue to cross freeman road...river
water will inundate some yards in the subdivision...and groundwater
flooding will occur in some basements.
the u.s. army corps of engineers alaska district is currently
operating the moose creek dam. flood control gates at the dam
started regulating the chena river at 6:00 pm on 20 july 2016. the
dam will be regulating the chena river so that flow does not exceed
12000 cubic feet per second in downtown fairbanks. groundwater will
rise to near the ground surface for several thousand feet west of
the moose creek dam with minor flooding possible. river navigation
through the moose creek dam is unavailable during operations.

roadway. the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
