...snow accumulations likely saturday night into sunday...
snow will likely spread northeast across central and southeast
illinois during saturday evening and continue into sunday. the
snow will mix with or change to rain in southeast illinois sunday
afternoon as temperatures climb into the middle 30s. current
indications suggest the potential for 4 to 6 inches of snow in
areas north of i-70...with the heaviest snow band from i-72 north.
between 2 and 4 inches of snow is possible from i-70 south with
most of this snow expected to fall saturday night into sunday
morning. winds will generally be near 10 mph or less during this
time period so this will limit the amount of blowing and drifting
snow.
if you have travel plans across the midwest saturday night and
sunday...check with later forecasts as additional changes to the
track of the storm are possible...which will lead to adjustments
to snow totals and precipitation types.

...light snow showers possible this evening and tonight...
expect some snow showers to move into the area this evening and
continue into the night. accumulations from this will be less
than a half an inch...with most places seeing little more than a
dusting. arctic air pours into eastern kentucky later tonight
with temperatures dropping into the teens for most of the area...
though some single digits will be possible for locations along and
north of interstate 64. be on the look out for potential slick
spots on area roads tonight as wet pavement will be prone to
freezing due to the arctic air.

...patches of ice probable overnight with refreeze...
air temperatures will drop well below freezing overnight...causing
any snow and ice that melted today to refreeze on untreated
surfaces. temperatures will remain well below freezing through the
friday morning commute...so give yourself some extra time to get
to your destination.
please use extra caution if traveling overnight into friday
morning. reduce speed and stay alert for patches of ice and slick
road conditions...even if road surfaces appear to be clear and
dry.
