fog has developed across parts of the region early this morning.
while visibility has been reduced to 1 to 2 miles in many areas, 
there are some pockets of thicker fog with visibility reduced to 
1/2 mile.

if traveling early this morning, be prepared for rapidly reduced 
visibilities. take it slow and exercise caution.

...patchy dense fog this morning...

patchy dense fog will continue to become more widespread through
this morning across eastern iowa, and eventually spread into 
northwest illinois by daybreak. conditions will gradually improve
from south to north through daybreak. be prepared for quick 
changes in visibility over short distances. visibilities will drop
below a quarter mile at times. slow down and allow extra time to 
reach your destination if traveling overnight.

...slippery spots likely on untreated roads and sidewalks this
morning...

occasional light rain and drizzle will continue this morning. 
with temperatures hovering near the freezing mark, the light 
precipitation could freeze and result in icy spots on untreated 
roads and sidewalks. temperatures should edge a few degrees above 
freezing by mid-morning, bringing the threat of icing to an end.
anyone traveling this morning should drive with care and be 
prepared for scattered slick spots.
