to 11 pm mst this evening...
the winter weather advisory for snow in the west-central and
boise mountains is now in effect from 11 am this morning to 11 pm
mst this evening.
* snow amounts...from 2 to 4 inches in the valleys. up to one foot
through midnight across higher peaks with additional
accumulations after midnight.
* snow levels...4500 feet...rising to 5500 by midnight.
* timing...snow will develop by late morning increasing in
intensity in the afternoon. snow levels will rise through the
evening reducing impacts in mountain valleys
* impacts...roads will become snow-covered making driving
difficult...especially along highway 55 north of smiths ferry
and warm lake road.

a winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will primarily cause travel difficulties. be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while
driving.

a winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow above 6500
feet remains in effect until 4 pm pst monday.
* snow accumulations: 8 to 18 inches through monday. locally 2
feet on favored mountains and northwest facing slopes.
* timing: the heaviest snow is expected from saturday afternoon
through midday sunday. the strongest winds are expected sunday
into monday.
* other impacts: travel to the higher terrain will become
difficult beginning late saturday. heavy snow and blowing
snow will make travel very difficult...and outdoor
recreation dangerous...saturday night through sunday
morning. snow and strong west to northwest winds will
continue sunday and monday.

* locations...leavenworth...mazama...twisp...winthrop...

* snow accumulations...4 to 9 inches of snow in the valleys and
in the mountains 8 to 16 inches. locally heavier amounts are
expected near the crest north of lake chelan.
* timing...the snow began early this morning and will continue at
times through tonight. the snow will begin to taper off late
tonight...however additional snow showers are still expected
over the higher mountains through most of sunday.
* impacts...the snow will result in potentially hazardous travel
conditions. this will impact most of the mountains passes...
including highway 2 over stevens pass as well blewett pass.
* snow level...initially on the valley floors...but steadily
rising to 4000 feet or higher south of lake chelan and up to
2500-3000 feet north of lake chelan by this afternoon.
