...excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 pm pdt
...heat advisory remains in effect until 8 pm pdt sunday...

* temperatures...as high as 110 in valley locations. overnight 
  lows will be in the mid to upper 60s so relief from the heat 
  will be limited. highest temperatures are expected today. 

* locations in the warning include...medford, ashland, grants 
  pass, lost creek lake, glendale, tri-city and seiad valley. 

* locations in the advisory include...roseburg, camas valley, 
  powers, prospect, steamboat, yreka, happy camp and weed. 

* impacts...long outdoor exposure will increase chances for heat 
  related illness, especially for sensitive groups and people 
  without access to ac. heat stress possible for livestock with 
  limited relief from the heat overnight. area waterways are 
  running very cold and fast, increasing the risk for 
  hypothermia and water rescues. 

* view the hazard area in detail at 

precautionary/preparedness actions...

* beat the heat, check the backseat. never leave people or pets 
  in vehicles. 

* rivers are dangerously cold and have strong currents. wear a 
  lift jacket if swimming. 

* monitor older adults, young children and those who are sick.

* take plenty of rest breaks in shade or air conditioning.

* drink water before, during and after activities.

...heat advisory in effect from noon to 9 pm pdt saturday...

the national weather service in portland has upgraded the
excessive heat watch for saturday to a heat advisory, which is in
effect from noon to 9 pm pdt saturday.

* impacts...moderate to high risk of heat illness for those who
  are sensitive to heat and those without effective cooling and
  adequate hydration.

* high temperatures saturday: ranging from the low 90s in the
  higher coast range to the upper 90s in the valleys.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned 
room, stay out of the sunshine, and check up on relatives and 
neighbors. know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and 
heat stroke. heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

...heat advisory remains in effect until 9 pm pdt sunday...

* temperature...lows sunday morning to be quite mild, in the mid
  50s to lower 60s. highs sunday in the 90s.  

* timing...through sunday.

* impacts...the elderly, youth, and those in poor health without
  air conditioning are particularly vulnerable to this heat. drink
  plenty of water, wear sunscreen and dress appropriately if
  outdoors or attending any community outdoor events sunday.  

precautionary/preparedness actions...

never leave children, pets, or the elderly unattended in a parked
hot vehicle, even with the windows down. car interiors can reach 
well over 100 degrees in just minutes.

drownings tend to occur during hot spells in western washington.
area rivers and lakes are cold. most rivers are running swift due
to spring snowmelt. cold water shock can disable anyone in no more
than 10 minutes. wear a life jacket.
