the national weather service in medford has issued a hazardous
seas warning...which is in effect from 10 pm this evening to
10 am pst thursday. a small craft advisory for hazardous seas is
in effect until 10 pm pst friday. the small craft advisory for
winds is now in effect until 4 pm pst friday.
* winds: south 20 to 30 knots with gusts to 30 to 40 knots.
* seas: building to 7 to 11 feet today with 5 second period south
wind waves and west swell at 12 seconds. seas will continue to
build to 10 to 15 feet early thursday and then will remain high
through friday evening.
* areas affected: the hazardous seas warning conditions area
expected to occur in the vicinity of the cape blanco buoy 15
northward across the coastal waters from cape blanco to florence
between 5 and 50 nautical miles of the coast. all areas will be
affected by the advisory level seas. nearly all areas except
the brookings area from the coast out to 10 miles west of the
coast will be affected by the advisory level south winds.

watch...which is in effect from wednesday afternoon through late
wednesday night.
* winds:sw winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to 20 kt. winds backing to
the south wednesday and increasing to 15 to 25 kt wednesday
afternoon. south winds 20 to 30 with gusts to 35 wednesday night
* seas: 8 to 9 ft through wednesday...building to 12 to 14 ft
wednesday night. the seas wednesday night will be a combination
of large steep wind waves and a 9 ft west swell with 12 second
wave periods.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a gale watch is issued when the risk of gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots has significantly increased...but the specific timing
and/or location is still uncertain. it is intended to provide
additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider
