douglas nv-lyon nv-
337 pm pdt fri jun 23 2017

the national weather service in reno has issued a

* flood advisory for...
  snowmelt in...
  douglas county in western nevada...
southern lyon county in west central nevada...

* until 315 pm pdt thursday

* flows will increase along the east walker river due to increased
releases from bridgeport reservoir over the next few days. these
releases are required to create space for increased snowmelt
runoff into the reservoir. this increase in flow will likely lead
to minor flooding along the east walker river, especially the
lower reaches from the area of strosnider ditch to the confluence.

* on the west walker river, elevated flows will continue through the
weekend, but these flows will decrease early next week as
temperatures cool back to near normal. minor flooding in the lower
parts of antelope valley is expected to continue through early
next week. high flows will also continue through wilson canyon.

* if reservoir operations are changed on topaz lake next week and
less water is diverted into the lake, there is a possibility that
flows will increase down the main channel of the west walker
river. this could lead to more extensive flooding from the
antelope valley downstream through smith valley and wilson canyon.
if flows increase we will likely need to upgrade the advisory to a
  warning.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated.

flood statement
national weather service reno nv
1013 am pdt sat jun 24 2017

...the flood warning continues for the following rivers in
california...

west walker river near coleville affecting mono county

...the flood warning continues for the following rivers in nevada...

walker river near mason affecting lyon county

very warm temperatures into early next week will maintain increased
snowmelt in the sierra with rapid runoff persisting in the upper
portions of the walker river basin.

snowmelt will result in continued high flows on the west walker
river. peak flows will occur overnight into the early morning hours.

increased releases from bridgeport reservoir will maintain high flows
on the east walker river.

as a result...flows into and below the mason-yerington area on the
mainstem walker river will remain high through early next week. the
peak level depends on efficiency of continued upstream flood plain
attenuation...reservoir management and when the reservoirs fill.
based on the latest river data...minor flooding is likely through
mason/yerington with moderate flooding below yerington through the
wabuska area. major flooding is still a possibility below yerington
to near weber reservoir.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

these river forecasts are based on forecast rainfall and temperature
conditions at time of issuance. if actual conditions vary from these
forecasts...river conditions will vary accordingly.
