...heat advisory remains in effect until 7 pm edt this evening...

* heat index values...up to 109 due to temperatures in the lower
to mid 90s, and dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s.

* timing...heat indices will remain above critical levels through
the afternoon and into the early evening before improving.

* impacts...high heat and humidity will increase the risk for
heat exhaustion and even heat stroke if precautionary measures
  are not taken.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures combined
with high humidity will create a situation in which heat
illnesses may occur. to reduce the risk of heat illness during
outdoor work and activities, the occupational safety and health
administration recommends scheduling frequent breaks in shaded or
air conditioned environments.

never leave unattended children or pets in a closed vehicle,
as temperatures inside can rise to fatal levels within minutes.
make sure outside pets and livestock have access to a well
ventilated and shaded area with plenty of water available.
