...heat advisory remains in effect from noon to 8 pm edt friday...

* locations...portions of central georgia south of a line from 
  columbus to macon and warrenton. 

* heat index values...up to 107.

* impacts...heat exhaustion and heat stroke will be possible.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a heat advisory means that a period of dangerous heat is
expected. the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will create heat index readings of at least 105 degrees. drink
plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room and stay out
of direct sunshine. remember...the elderly...very young...and
people with heart conditions are most at risk in extreme heat.
friends...relatives... and neighbors should check on people who
may be at risk.

when possible...reschedule strenuous activities to the early
morning or the evening. know the signs and symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke. wear light weight and loose fitting
clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. to reduce your
risk during outdoor work...the occupational safety and health
administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. heat stroke is an
emergency...call 911.

the national weather service in jacksonville has issued a heat
advisory...which is in effect from noon to 8 pm edt friday. 

* temperature...highs inland on friday ranging from 96 to
  101...with highs at the coast in the low to mid 90s.

* maximum heat index readings...106 to 111.

* impacts...these conditions will increase the risk of heat 
  related illnesses...such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke. 

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a heat advisory is issued when the combination of hot
temperatures and high humidities creates heat indices of
108 degrees or higher. the heat index is a measure of how hot it
feels when the effect of humidity combine with the temperature.
high heat index values can create dangerously hot conditions
where individuals may become critically exhausted if outdoors.
