the national weather service in wakefield has issued a heat
advisory, which is in effect from 10 am to 8 pm edt sunday.

* areas affected: currituck outer banks north carolina.

* maximum forecast heat index values: around 105 degrees.

* timing: sunday from late morning through mid to late afternoon.

* impacts: prolonged exposure or any strenuous activity may lead 
  to heat related illnesses that require immediate medical 
  attention.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned
room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and
neighbors.

   take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside.
when possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke. wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

   to reduce risk during outdoor work...the occupational safety
and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest
breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. anyone overcome
by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.   heat

...excessive heat watch is cancelled...

the national weather service in raleigh has issued an excessive
heat warning, which is in effect until 7 pm edt sunday.

* heat index values...110 to 115 degrees this afternoon and again
  sunday. actual highs around 100 both days. lows tonight around
  80. 

* timing...heat index values will climb above 105 degrees early
  afternoon, topping out at 110 to 115 late afternoon and again
  sunday afternoon. temperatures will be slow to fall through the
  80s overnight, and may stay above 80 in the urban areas.

* impacts...the heat and humidity will likely cause heat stress
  during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. the long duration
  of temperatures remaining above 80 at night combined with
  afternoon heat index values of 110 make this a very dangerous
  heat event. 

precautionary/preparedness actions...

an excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. the combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation
in which heat illnesses are likely. drink plenty of fluids, stay
