...the flash flood warning remains in effect until 1000 pm edt for
northwestern hardy and southwestern hampshire counties...

at 857 pm edt, the hampshire county 911 center  
reported roads closed in purgitsville. the hardy county 911 
center reported high water near bean settlement and inkerman. the 
heaviest rain has moved out of the area, but creeks and streams will 
continue to flow out of their banks. 

some locations that will experience flooding include...
mcneill, bean settlement, old fields, purgitsville, baker, inkerman,
kirby and junction.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

a flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
if you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

...the flash flood warning remains in effect until 945 pm edt for
northwestern anne arundel and southeastern howard counties...

at 800 pm edt, doppler radar indicated one to three inches of rain 
fell earlier across the area, with heavier rain upstream. 
significant flash flooding is ongoing, especially along the little 
patuxent river, where the stream is several feet above flood stage 
and deep water is covering the southbound lanes of us 29 with water 
rescues ongoing.

some locations that will experience flooding include...
columbia, severn, elkridge, ellicott city, savage-guilford,
scaggsville, ilchester, linthicum, jessup, savage, fulton, highland,
hanover, simpsonville, clarksville and harmans.

this includes the following streams and drainages...middle patuxent
river...patapsco river...midway branch...piny run...dorsey run...
severn river...patuxent river...little patuxent river...stony run...
red hill branch...deep run...sawmill creek and severn run.

east central howard and southwestern baltimore counties...

at 756 pm edt, emergency management reported widespread damage from 
flash flooding. rain is ending but ongoing flooding will persist 
for a couple more hours at least. 

some locations that will experience flooding include...
ellicott city, catonsville, woodlawn, arbutus, ilchester and oella. 

this includes the following streams and drainages...dead run...red
hill branch...patapsco river...sucker branch...maidens choice run...
east branch...little patuxent river and herbert run.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

stay away or be swept away. river banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

...the flash flood warning for northwestern kanawha...southern putnam
and northeastern lincoln counties is cancelled...

the heavy rain has ended, and flood waters have receded. there were 
no new reports of high water or rescues since 717 pm. flooding is no 
longer expected to pose a threat. please continue to heed any 
remaining road closures.

...the flash flood warning remains in effect until 1015 pm edt for 
mercer county...

at 743 pm edt, local law enforcement reported flash flooding in the 
athens area with roads flooded, several mud slides, and a creek 
flooding the towns water treatment plant. up to three inches of rain 
fell near athens, and 1-2 inches just this evening in many other 
parts of mercer county. flash flooding is in progress in some areas.

excessive rainfall over the warned area will cause mud slides near
steep terrain. the mud slide can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and
other loose materials.

some locations that will experience flooding include...
bluefield...
princeton...
athens...
matoaka...
and camp creek.

this includes the following location mercer county airport.
 
precautionary/preparedness actions...

in hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. find an alternate route.

if you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

...the flash flood warning remains in effect until 945 pm edt for 
central roanoke ...the city of salem and the city of roanoke...

at 835 pm edt, numerous reports of flash flooding in the cave spring 
area of roanoke county area were received earlier this evening with 
ongoing issues including several evacuations mainly along mudlick 
creek in roanoke city.

nws doppler radar estimated that 4 to 6 inches of rain fell in about 
3 hours and a rain gage report of 4.69 inches near bent mountain was 
received.

some locations that will experience flooding include...
roanoke...
salem...
vinton...
hollins...
and poages mill.

doppler radar is indicating that an additional round of showers and 
thunderstorms are developing in and around the warned area. these 
storms could produce one to two more inches of rain in the next 
hour.
