national weather service mount holly nj
1247 am edt sun jul 31 2016
mercer nj-somerset nj-middlesex nj-
1247 am edt sun jul 31 2016
...a flood warning remains in effect until 215 am edt for central
mercer...southeastern somerset and southwestern middlesex counties...
at 1245 am edt...flooding continued across portions of mercer,
somerset, and middlesex counties. the millstone river is flooding in
somerset county, and the lawrence brook in middlesex county is also
flooding. the assunpink however in mercer county is below flood
stage and continues to recede.
additional creeks continue to run high as well, and roads have been
closed. the worst flooding was between monmouth junction and
cranbury and from princeton to plainsboro, including the route one
corridor. until the water completely subsides, this remains a
dangerous situation. do not go around road barriers.
some locations that will experience flooding include...
trenton...new brunswick...somerset...east brunswick...
south brunswick...north brunswick...ewing...princeton...cranbury...
rocky hill...millstone...north brunswick township...lawrenceville...
kingston...kendall park...dayton...plainsboro center...
princeton meadows...mercerville-hamilton square and south river.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
most flood deaths occur in automobiles. never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the road. when encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice...turn around...dont drown.
be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. if flooding is observed act quickly. move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.
do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. move to higher ground.
