133 pm cdt sat aug 29 2015
the national weather service in birmingham has issued a
* small stream flood advisory for...
central winston county in northwestern alabama...
* until 430 pm cdt
* at 130 pm cdt...doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. this will cause small stream flooding in the
advisory area. two to three inches of rain have already been
estimated by doppler radar.
additional rainfall of 1 to 2 additional inches is expected over the
area...which will cause small stream flooding and flooding to low
lying or poor drainage areas.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
most flood deaths occur in automobiles. never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the road. when encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice...turn around...dont drown.
excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams...as well as farm and country roads. do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. find alternate routes.
