918 pm cdt sat may 18 2013
...the flood warning continues for the following rivers in north
dakota...
souris river near towner affecting mchenry county
souris river near bantry affecting mchenry county
souris river near westhope affecting bottineau county
for the souris river basin including towner...bantry...westhope...
minor to moderate flooding is occurring and is expected to continue.
. the souris river near towner and bantry continues its slow fall from
the peak of spring flooding. the souris river basin is expected to
receive up to 1.5 inches of rain in addition to what has fallen through
late tuesday. the lengthy duration of this rain is not likely to be
problematic over a large area...or for the souris river itself
given the relatively dry soil conditions. however...enhanced rainfall
rates or several rounds of storms could produce significant runoff...leading
to rises on small creeks and streams...and possibly localized flooding. the
souris river around towner and bantry is expected to fall below flood
stage sunday.
farther downstream at westhope...the souris river is at its crest...and
will stay at this level this weekend before beginning a slow...but
steady fall early next week.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
safety message...do not drive into areas where water tops the
roadway. turn around...don't drown. avoid driving on flooded roads.

could be occurring.
* runoff from this rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur...

state highway 135 between mile markers 15 and 30. small streams
of particular concern are beaver creek...long creek...government
