the national weather service in tucson has issued an
* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
cochise county in southeast arizona...
this includes the cities of...willcox...sierra vista...douglas...
bisbee...
* until 200 pm mst
* at 805 am mst...national weather service doppler radar indicated
that only isolated showers continue over portions of cochise county
this morning...mainly over the eastern portions of the county and
moving to the east. with rainfall totals ranging from 2 to 5 inches
over the past 48 hours...numerous roadways and low water crossings
in the county will continue to be impacted by the heavy rain
received. therefore...an urban and small stream flood advisory is in
effect until 2 pm mst. this advisory replaces the flood warning that
was issued during the overnight hours.
some of the roadways that have been affected by the heavy rain and
are closed include: davis road from hwy 80 to frontier road.
frontier road is closed from double adobe road to davis road. border
north moson road and escapule road in the sierra vista area is
closed. parker rance road and coyote song in san simon remain
closed. balance ranch road has been closed in whetstone.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. move to higher ground.
a flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

...the flood warning remains in effect until 415 pm mst thursday for
southwestern cochise county...
at 357 am mst extremely heavy flow into and through the san pedro
river continued.
at 4am the gauge at palominas was reporting 14.8 feet / 8100cfs. it
is expected to exceed flood stage shortly and peak at about 20.4
feet / 18300cfs around 830 am.
further downstream...the gauge at charleston was reporting 5.1 feet
/ 800cfs. it is expected to peak around 11.6 feet / 17000cfs this
afternoon which is just above bankfull but below flood stage.
we will keep the flood warning for the san pedro for areas from the
border to just past highway 82 for now and keep an eye on things.
a flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
however...all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of rivers
and washes...highways and underpasses. additionally...roads and
other low lying areas are subject to flooding.
