* flood warning for the north fork stillaguamish river east of the
state route 530 slide in north central snohomish county...
* until 445 pm pdt april 24.
* flooding continues on the north fork of the stillaguamish river
upstream of the sr 530 slide due to debris from the state route
530 slide partially blocking the river and the resulting pooling
of water behind the debris dam. we will be updating the flood
warning on a day to day basis.
* the oso area has received only 0.08 inches of rain in the past 24
hours ending at 3 pm. but heavy showers are expected to produce
between 0.75 and 1.5 inches of rain in the slide area through about
midnight saturday night. at 300 pm pdt saturday...the north fork
of the stillaguamish river near arlington was at 4.5 feet or 2700
cfs. the north fork of the stillaguamish near arlington is expected
to rise overnight...cresting near 6.5 feet or 6012 cfs early sunday
morning. the north fork of the stillaguamish near oso was at 216.4

expected to rise...cresting near 218.2 feet or 3500 cfs early monday
morning. the north fork of the stillaguamish is expected to fall
sunday through monday.
* at 300 pm pdt saturday...the pool elevation was not available. due
to heavy showers tonight...the pool elevation is forecast to rise
about 2 feet above current values by early sunday afternoon before
resuming a slow fall sunday night into monday. there continues to be
a great amount of uncertainty in the forecast pool elevation due in
part to limited knowledge of how much water the new stream channel
through the slide debris will be able to convey.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a flood warning means flooding is occurring or imminent. most flood
related deaths occur in automobiles. do not attempt to cross water
covered bridges...dips...or low water crossings. never try to cross a
flowing stream...even a small one...on foot. to escape rising water
move up to higher ground.
