kauai oahu molokai and north facing shores of maui...
...high surf advisory for the southern kona coast of the big

.a large northwest swell is peaking this morning with warning
level surf expected along most north and west facing shores from
kauai to maui, and advisory level surf for areas of the leeward
big island through today. early morning high tides will bring the
risk of wave runup and overwash along low-lying coastlines
exposed to the swell. this swell will slowly subside through

...high surf warning remains in effect until 6 pm hst this

* what...surf along north and west facing shores of niihau and
kauai, and north facing shores of oahu, molokai, and maui will
be 25 to 35 feet today. surf along west facing shores of oahu
and molokai will rise to 15 to 25 feet today.

* where...north and west facing shores of niihau, kauai, oahu,
molokai, and north facing shores of maui.

* when...until 6 pm hst today.

* impacts...high. a full moon high tide early this morning will
bring the potential of overwash along coastal roadways. expect
ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches,
very strong breaking waves, and strong longshore and rip
currents. breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors making
  navigating the harbor channel dangerous.

* additional details...tide gauges are showing water levels near
6/10 of a foot higher than predicted. this added water level
will allow waves to reach higher along exposed coastlines.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

large, breaking surf, significant shorebreak, and dangerous
currents make entering the water very hazardous.

anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death.
