Folsom Lake Overview
Folsom is a fun place to kite during the Sherman Island off season. Winds seem to come through for 2-3 days at a time when storms roll across northern CA. Wind can be gusty and shifty. Always be extra careful in storm winds. Particularly on north winds, the kite spot can see 2-3 foot wind swell. Also on a north wind, exercise caution when riding upwind of the dyke, because the large jagged boulders at the base make for an unpleasant landing spot. At low water, small islands and peninsulas can create nice flat water.

Maps & Directions
On a south wind, enter Folsom Lake State Recreation Area from the Granite Bay/Granite Beach side (north side of lake). Look for signs to 5% Launch and look for kites. On a North wind, enter park on south side of lake at Dyke 8/Folsom Point entrance.

Sensor Notes
Data from this station is courtesy of MesoWest and other contributing organizations. Seems like if sensor here or at Folsom Dam shows an average of 10mph or better, it's on. Folsom dam indicator is better for south winds.
