flood watch
national weather service denver co
152 pm mdt tue jul 29 2014

...flash flooding likely for the front range and eastern plains
this afternoon through wednesday afternoon...

.a very moist airmass...light winds aloft...and a weak upper level
trough will produce thunderstorms with heavy rain this afternoon
and tonight. the main threat for areas in and near the front range
will be this afternoon and evening...while on the plains the main
threat will be overnight tonight. general rainfall amounts
through wednesday will range from 1 to 3 inches. there will likely
be areas where slow moving thunderstorms produce very heavy
rainfall for several hours...producing 3 to 6 inches of rain over
a localized area in a few hours. at this time it is difficult to
predict exactly when and where these heavier thunderstorms will
develop.

additional showers and thunderstorms are expected wednesday as
another trough passes over the state. there will still be a threat
of heavy rain and flooding...though the risk will be lower on
wednesday than tonight.
