* winds and seas...northwest winds 20 to 30 kt with gusts up to 
  35 kt. seas 7 to 9 feet.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a gale watch is issued when the risk of gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots has significantly increased...but the specific timing
and/or location is still uncertain. it is intended to provide
additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider
altering their plans.

...gusty west to northwest winds and choppy seas friday evening
through sunday morning

.a deep trough of low pressure will move through california
friday through saturday night...bringing strong northwest winds and
large waves to the coastal waters. the winds will increase friday
evening and continue strong through saturday night...with a few
gale force gusts possible in the outer waters....generating large
short-period wind waves. general swell will be elevated as well.
the combination of these strong winds and swell will make
conditions hazardous for small craft in both the inner and outer
waters. winds will diminish sunday afternoon...improving

coastal waters from san mateo point to the mexican border and out
30 nm-
waters from san mateo point to the mexican border extending 30 to
60 nm out including san clemente island-

...small craft advisory in effect from 5 pm friday to 11 am pdt

the national weather service in san diego has issued a small
craft advisory...which is in effect from 5 pm friday to 11 am pdt

* winds...northwest 15 to 20 knots with gusts to 30 knots.

* seas...combined seas 8 to 10 feet. short period wind waves will
  create very choppy conditions on top of the swell.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots
and combined seas of 10 feet or greater are expected to produce
hazardous wave conditions to small craft. inexperienced
mariners...especially those operating smaller vessels should
avoid navigating in these conditions.
