...winter weather with low snow levels will affect the mountains
this weekend including the major mountain passes...
.a cold low pressure system will move into the area tonight and
persist through at least monday...and possibly into tuesday
morning. this storm system could bring snow to elevations as low
as 3500 feet and might affect travel both on interstate 5 and
highway 14 saturday night through monday morning.
this is a watch product which means that these winter conditions
are just a possibility...not a certainty. people planning travel
into or through the mountains need to be aware of the potential
for dangerous winter weather and seek updates as it develops. this
storm could change in character between now and saturday.

...winter storm watch remains in effect from saturday afternoon
through monday afternoon...
* locations...the mountains of los angeles...ventura and santa
barbara counties.
* hazard types...snow...blowing snow...lightning and poor
* snow accumulations...6 to 12 inches of snow could fall across
elevations above 5500 feet by monday morning. lesser
accumulations are possible above 4000 feet.
* timing and snow levels...there is a chance of snow showers late
tonight...with a snow level of around 6500 feet. the chance of
snow showers will increase through the day saturday as the snow
level lowers to between 4500 and 5000 feet. snow showers will be
likely saturday night and sunday with snow levels lowering to
between 3500 and 4000 feet. shower activity should start to
diminish late sunday night into monday...but there is a chance
that showers will persist into early tuesday. there is a slight
chance of thunderstorms saturday afternoon through sunday
* impacts...snow could affect travel on the interstate 5 and
highway 14 late saturday night through monday morning.
* visibilities...snow...blowing snow and fog could restrict
visibilities to a quarter mile or less.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
check the latest road reports before departing. keep an emergency
kit in your vehicle which includes a flashlight...food and
water...extra clothes and blankets...and tire chains.
