a southerly swell generated from hurricane marie is forecast to
impact the coastal waters through the weekend. the swell will peak
at 3 to 5 ft at 15 to 17 seconds today into thursday and then
subside into the weekend.
this swell poses a threat to those who work or recreate in or near
the ocean. mariners...fishermen...beach goers...surfers...and abalone
divers should be prepared for stronger than typical currents
through the week and possibly into the holiday weekend.
other threats include...increased shoaling hazards upon south and
southwest facing anchorages and coves that are typically sheltered
from normally experienced northwest waves.

southerly swell generated by hurricane marie will continue to
impact the california coastal waters through the end of the work
week. swell is forecast to peak at 6 to 8 feet with swell periods
as high as 17 seconds. swell direction will be south to south-
southeast today which will keep much of the largest swell more
than 20 nm offshore. as the swell direction becomes more southerly
thursday afternoon...impacts are expected closer to shore however
swell height will also have eased to 4 to 6 feet. southwest swell
around 3 feet moves into the coastal waters over the weekend.
mariners and fishermen should be prepared for stronger than
typical currents through the week especially if they are planning
on diving or entering the water.
