...strong to severe thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall
possible sunday night...

...a rainy pattern is expected over south texas next week...

a frontal boundary over northwest texas saturday afternoon will
gradually move southeast tonight and sunday. the boundary is
forecast to move into south central texas and the edward's
plateau region late sunday afternoon. showers and thunderstorms
are expected to develop along the boundary due to surface forcing,
daytime heating, and a weak upper level jet.

there is a good chance that some of these thunderstorms will move
south and southeast during the evening and overnight hours sunday
night. a few strong and possibly severe storms could develop late
sunday evening and early monday morning, mainly over the northern
brush country and rio grande plains. the main impacts from the
storms over the aforementioned areas will be strong and possibly
damaging winds along with some small to isolated severe hail.

also, if the complex of storms develops sunday night, there will
be the potential for locally heavy rainfall, as deep tropical
moisture begins to pool along the boundary. rainfall amounts
averaging 1 to 3 inches will be possible through monday, with
locally higher amounts of more than 5 inches. at this time, the
heaviest rainfall is expected to occur over the southern coastal
bend.

rain chances will continue monday night through the upcoming work
week, as moisture remains above normal over south texas.
additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches will be possible
monday night through the work week. depending on how much rainfall
occurs during the next few days, a flash flood watch may be needed
over portions of south texas at some time next week.

however, there remains some uncertainty concerning the rainfall
coverage and rainfall amounts during the upcoming week. residents
are encouraged to keep updated on the latest forecasts for not
only sunday night but for the rest of the week as more certainty
in the forecast scenario increases. listen to your noaa weather
radio or local media, or you can keep track of the latest
forecasts for your location by going to our webpage:
