the national weather service in birmingham has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
  tuscaloosa county in west central alabama...
  greene county in west central alabama...
  hale county in west central alabama...

* until 345 pm cdt

* at 150 pm cdt, doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with heavy 
  rain spreading northeast across the area. the thunderstorms were 
  dumping brief but heavy rainfall on areas that received heavy 
  rainfall during the past twenty four hours. one to two inches of 
  rain is possible during the next hour in localized areas. this 
  will produce some flooding of streets and roadways in the 
  area...especially in low-lying flood prone areas with poor 
  drainage and near small creeks and streams.

* some locations that will experience flooding include...
  tuscaloosa, northport, eutaw, greensboro, holt, moundville, lake
  view, brookwood, coaling, vance, woodstock, coker, forkland, akron,
  boligee, union, newbern, samantha, thornhill and mcfarland mall.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

the flood warning continues for
  the leaf near mclain
* until further notice.
* at 9 am friday the stage was 24.9 feet. 
* moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. 
* flood stage is 18 feet.
* the river will continue rising to near 27 feet by sunday evening then begin 
  falling.
* at 18 feet...considerable flooding of agricultural and lowlands near the river.
* at 24 feet...some county roads in the area will become flooded.
* at 28 feet...water will back up mcswain branch and some residences will 
  become flooded.
