forecasts are based on rainfall that has occurred and that which is
forecast to occur. routine24 hours of forecast rainfall is used for
the mississippi river.

the mississippi river at baton rouge affecting east baton rouge and
west baton rouge parishes
precautionary/preparedness actions...
forecast crests are based upon rainfall that has occurred along with
anticipated rain for the next 12 hours. adjustments to the forecasts
will be made if additional heavy rainfall occurs.
do not drive cars through flooded areas. remember, two feet of
rushing water can carry away most vehicles including pickups. turn
around and don't drown!

at around 52.3 feet by late tonight. additional rises may be possible
thereafter.
* impact...at 51.0 feet...all river islands along the reach from red
river landing to baton rouge will be inundated. recreational camps
and river bottom farm land will be under water.
* impact...at 48.0 feet...access roads will be inundated and
evacuation of all river islands must be complete. protection of
people and property in the river bottom land on the river side of
the levees must be complete.

western andrews county in west texas...
southeastern lea county in southeast new mexico...

* at 625 am cdt...national weather service meteorologists detected
heavy rain moving across southeast lea county and northwest andrews
county. this rain is moving across areas that have already received
heavy rain with saturated soils increasing the possibility of flash
flooding. locations affected include jal and frankel city.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.
