the national weather service in jackson ky has extended the
* flood warning for...
northern knott county in southeastern kentucky...
floyd county in southeastern kentucky...
east central breathitt county in southeastern kentucky...
pike county in southeastern kentucky...
southeastern magoffin county in southeastern kentucky...
* until 1230 pm est friday
* at 230 am est...the big sandy river and several of its tributaries
continue to run high. backwater from the big sandy and its
tributaries is causing ongoing flooding of low lying areas and
smaller creeks and streams. in addition...some roads near the
river could be impassable. the river has crested or was nearing
crest and the water should recede out of the affected areas by
early friday afternoon.
* some locations that will experience flooding include...
pikeville...prestonsburg...hindman...estill...coal run village...
wheelwright...martin...pippa passes...forest hills...wayland...
allen...chloe...gunlock...evanston...fishtrap lake...east
mcdowell...alphoretta...buckingham...kite and garden village.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
however...all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.
be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. if flooding is observed act quickly. move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.

...the national weather service in newport has issued a flood warning
for the following rivers in north carolina...
tar river at greenville affecting pitt county
precautionary/preparedness actions...
do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. most flood deaths occur
in automobiles when people try to drive through flooded areas.
caution is urged when walking near riverbanks. flood waters will
weaken the banks making them dangerous.
a followup product will be issued by the national weather service a
little later.

the national weather service in newport has issued a
* flood warning for
the tar river at greenville.
* from late tonight until further notice...or until the warning is
cancelled.
* at 8 am friday the stage was 12.7 feet.
* minor flooding is forecast.
* flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* forecast...rise above flood stage by after midnight tonight and
continue to rise to near 14.1 feet by early tuesday afternoon.
* impact...at 14.0 feet...minor low land flooding adjacent to the
river can be expected.
