the national weather service in greenville-spartanburg has issued a
* flood warning for urban areas and small streams in...
central henderson county in western north carolina...
* until 100 am est
* at 956 pm est...reporting rain gauges indicate up to three inches
of rain have fallen across the area since early this morning.
runoff from previous heavy rainfall will continue into the mud
creek river basin through late this evening.
* some locations that will experience flooding include...
hendersonville...valley hill...east flat rock...laurel park...flat
rock and dana.
* the stream gage at mud creek south of hendersonville continues to
rise above flood stage. the flood stage is 7.5 feet and the
current level is 8.06 feet. the river level will likely crest
within the next couple of hours and begin to fall. south king
street...south grove street...and south center plaza will remain
flooded. also...businesses will be flooded at the intersection of
us 176/hwy 25.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
most flood deaths occur in vehicles. do not drive around barricades
and do not drive into areas where water covers the roadway. only a
few inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. turn
around...dont drown.
please report flood water flowing over roads or threatening
property...or landslides to the national weather service greenville
