* areas affected: southeast virginia and northeast north carolina.
* hazards: snow mixed with sleet.
* timing: light snow mixed with sleet will taper off to scattered
flurries after midnight.
* accumulation: a coating to less than one half inch.
* temperatures: falling into the upper 20s.
* winds: north 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph.
* impacts: roads will become slippery as any moisture on roadways
freezes...making travel dangerous.

.rain will change to a period of freezing rain and sleet this
evening behind a strong cold front. minimal impacts on roadways
are expected due to the warm ground temperatures...though some
slick spots may develop on elevated surfaces such as bridges and
overpasses. a couple tenths of an inch of sleet are possible
along with several hundredths of an inch of ice accrual...mainly
north of highway 70.

the national weather service in newport/morehead city has issued
a winter weather advisory for sleet and light freezing rain...which
is in effect from 6 pm this evening to 4 am est friday.
* timing...rain changes to sleet and freezing rain after around 6
pm...and ends during the early morning hours friday.
* main impact...several tenths of an inch of sleet...and several
hundredths of an inch of ice accrual is possible. some slick
spots may develop on mainly elevated surfaces such as bridges
and overpasses...though no major impacts on roadways are
expected as ground temperatures are very warm.
* location...generally along and north of highway 70.
