do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. most flood deaths occur 
in automobiles when people try to drive through flooded areas.

  the chicod creek near simpson.
* until further notice.
* at  5 am tuesday the stage was 9.6 feet.
* minor flooding is forecast.
* flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* forecast...rise above flood stage by this morning . additional rises are 
  possible thereafter.
* impact...at 10.0 feet...flooding of low lying areas adjacent to 
  mobleys bridge road.

the national weather service in newport has issued a

* flood advisory for...
  northwestern mainland hyde county in eastern north carolina...
  washington county in eastern north carolina...
  east central martin county in eastern north carolina...
  northeastern beaufort county in eastern north carolina...

* until 800 am edt

* at 624 am edt, doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
  thunderstorms. this will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.
  two to three inches of rain have already fallen.

* some locations that will experience flooding include...
  plymouth, roper and jamesville. 

additional rainfall of a half inch to 2 inches is expected over the 
area. this additional rain will result in minor flooding.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

a flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

* until 715 am edt

* at 508 am edt, doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause 
  minor flooding in the advisory area. 2 to 5 inches of rain have 
  fallen. also, some areas may still have residual flooded roadways.

* some locations that will experience flooding include...
  greenville, new bern, kinston, havelock, winterville, ayden,
  farmville, warsaw, la grange, james city, mount olive, trent woods,
  river bend, grifton, snow hill, richlands, beulaville, maysville,
  vanceboro and kenansville.

additional rainfall of half an inch to 2 inches inches is expected 
over the area. this additional rain will result in minor flooding.

...a flood warning remains in effect until 715 am edt for alamance...
forsyth...davidson...orange...harnett...randolph...guilford...lee and
chatham counties...

at 344 am edt, doppler radar indicated the bulk of the moderate 
rainfall was east of the warned area. however, another batch of 
moderate rain across the raleigh vicinity will move westward along 
the highway 64 and i-40 corridor through 630 am. this additional 
rainfall may aggravate any minor flooding now occurring. an 
additional half to one inch of rain is possible through 630 am edt.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.
