* locations...this includes block island...marthas vineyard and

* hazard types...snow along with a period of sleet possible.
* timing...snow develops after midnight tonight. snow falls
heavy at times into mid morning on monday. the snow will
change to sleet then rain before midday then change back to
snow monday evening before ending.
* impacts...hazardous travel is expected along with snow covered
roads and poor visibility.
* winds...northeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
* quarter mile or less at times.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a winter weather advisory is issued when snow and/or ice is
forecast to develop in the affected areas...but accumulations are
expected to be light. any snow or ice would result in slippery
conditions on untreated roadways and sidewalks. when
temperatures are below freezing...motorists need to be especially

the national weather service in new york has issued a winter
weather advisory for snow and ice...which is in effect from 7 pm
this evening to 6 pm est monday. the winter storm watch is no
longer in effect.
* locations...eastern and southwest suffolk...and southern
nassau counties.
* hazard types...snow and freezing rain.
* accumulations...snow accumulation of 1 to 4 inches...along with
a few hundredths of an inch of ice. highest snow and ice amounts
will be across northern portions of long island.
* timing...tonight through monday. brief heavy snow late tonight
into early monday morning...changing to heavy rain...then
changing back to wintry mix in the late afternoon. snowfall
range could be an inch higher or lower based on timing of
changeover in the morning.
* winds...east winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in the
morning. northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph
late monday.
* the lower 30s.
* visibilities...briefly one quarter mile or less at times late
tonight into early monday morning.
* snowfall rates...briefly 1 to 2 inches per hour late tonight
into early monday morning.
* impacts...hazardous travel due to reduced visibilities and snow
accumulations for the early monday morning commute. untreated
roadways will likely become icy for the monday evening commute.

* locations...the lower hudson valley...northeast new jersey
roughly north of interstate 80...and much of southern
* hazard types...heavy snow.
* timing...sunday night and monday.
* the teens to lower 20s.
* winds...northeast 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
* impacts...hazardous travel due to reduced visibilities and
significant snow accumulations.
* quarter to one half mile at times.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds
will combine to generate low wind chills that could lead to
frostbite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken. if you
