* winds and seas...north winds 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 45 kt.
seas 6 to 11 feet.
a storm watch is issued when the risk of storm force winds of
48 to 63 knots has significantly increased...but the specific
timing and/or location is still uncertain. it is intended to
provide additional lead time for mariners who may wish to
consider altering their plans.

...small craft advisory remains in effect until 6 am edt
...gale warning remains in effect from 6 am edt saturday to 5 pm
* location...coastal ocean waters south of long island...eastern
long island sound...and the bays of long island.
* winds...northeast winds increase to 15 to 25 kt with gusts up to
30 kt tonight. winds increase to gale force saturday morning and
become north 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 40 kt by saturday
night and through sunday.
* seas...building to 5 to 10 feet on the ocean waters...and 3 to 5
feet across the eastern long island sound.
* timing...the strongest winds and highest seas are expected
from saturday night into sunday morning.
a gale warning means sustained winds or frequent gusts of 34 to
47 kt are expected or occurring. operating a vessel in gale
conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. it
is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience
seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
a small craft advisory means that sustained wind speeds or
frequent gusts of 25 to 33 kt and/or seas of 5 ft or higher are
expected or occurring...and hazardous to small craft.
inexperienced mariners...especially those operating smaller
vessels...should avoid navigating in these conditions.
