.snow has developed along the interstate 35 corridor running from
south central minnesota into north central iowa. at 10 am...the
heaviest snow was falling from a band that extended from red wing
to faribault to mankato minnesota where visibility has dropped to
a quarter mile or less. snow will pick up in intensity through
the early portion of this afternoon and cause some slippery road
conditions before diminishing in intensity by late afternoon.
around an inch or less of snow has already fallen with another 1
to 3 inches possible by tonight. be prepared for snow covered
roads...particularly if you are traveling toward the interstate 35
corridor.

morning to 3 am cst thursday...
* location...douglas and bayfield counties.
* timing...lake effect snow will develop late this morning...and
increase in intensity this afternoon. snowfall intensity will
peak during the middle of the afternoon...then gradually
diminish this evening and overnight.
* snow accumulations...widespread 4 to 6 inches over northeast
douglas county and much of bayfield county. the highest
amounts...about 6 to 8 inches...can be expected over the
highway 13 corridor in northern bayfield county.
* winds/visibility...gusty north winds will reduce visibility in
the heavier snow bands to a half mile or less at times.
* impacts...travel conditions will deteriorate late this morning
and this afternoon. weather conditions will gradually improve
late this afternoon into tonight.

wisconsin today into thursday morning...
.a cold front will move through the lake superior region today.
cold northerly flow will develop over western lake superior late
this morning and early this afternoon...setting the stage for
moderate to heavy lake effect snow accumulations for portions of
northwest wisconsin through thursday morning. the greatest
snowfall intensity will occur this afternoon and this evening.
widespread snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected...but
the northern portions of ashland and iron counties can expect
about 6 to 12 inches. travel could be difficult this afternoon
and tonight due to the accumulating snow and low visibility in
the heavier snow bands. the lake effect snow will gradually
diminish tonight and thursday morning.

effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or
impossible. lake-effect snow showers typically align themselves
in bands and will likely be intense enough to drop 1 to several
inches of snow per hour for several hours. visibilities vary
greatly and can drop to zero within minutes. travel is strongly
discouraged. commerce could be severely impacted. if you must
travel...keep an extra flashlight...food...and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.

there will be some light snow across the area through early this
