...winter weather to return thursday night through early saturday...

a winter weather system will move from kansas thursday night to lower
michigan saturday and bring a wintry weather back to wisconsin. snow
should arrive thursday night and continue into early saturday in most
places. the snow may change to sleet, freezing rain or rain during
the daytime hours friday, especially across east central wisconsin.

six inches or more of snow seem likely north of a wausau to niagara
line, with less to the south where it will be mixed with sleet, freezing
rain or rain. gusty northeast winds may cause blowing and drifting snow
away from the lake and bay. there is still some uncertainty with the
track of the storm, so snow amounts may change.

keep up to date with the latest forecasts if you have travel plans
thursday night through early saturday.

...a wintry mix of precipitation expected late thursday night
into saturday...

a storm system developing over the plains on thursday will lift
toward the great lakes and bring a mix of wet snow and light
freezing rain to much of west and central upper michigan late
thursday night into friday. the mixed precipitation will gradually
transition over to lake enhanced or lake effect snow friday night
into saturday as colder air wraps in behind the system. the best
chance for moderate snow accumulation during the period will be
over the west half of upper michigan, particularly over north-
facing higher terrain along lake superior. north wind gusts
increasing to 30 mph late friday night into saturday may also
cause some blowing snow, especially for exposed areas along lake
superior.

the increasing north winds will also build waves to 7 to 10 feet
over the eastern half of lake superior by saturday. these waves
could also cause minor beach erosion for areas east of marquette
to grand marais.

motorists should use caution when traveling thursday night into
saturday as area roadways will become slippery from the
combination of wet snow and possible freezing precipitation.
