national weather service milwaukee/sullivan wi
906 am cst sat dec 20 2025

for waters beyond five nautical miles of shore on lake michigan.

waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.synopsis...

low pressure of 29.3 inches will track across ontario today and
tonight, and the associated cold front will cross lake michigan
this afternoon and early evening. southerly gusts ahead of the
front will periodically exceed gale force today. a brief decrease
in gusts may occur from late morning into the early afternoon as
a cold front approaches and begins to cross lake michigan.

west- northwest gusts will quickly increase behind the front late
this afternoon, and a return of widespread gales is anticipated
across the open waters. the gale warning remains in effect until
3 am cst. areas of moderate freezing spray are expected this
evening as arctic air settles in behind the departed front with
pockets of heavy freezing spray possible.

winds will steadily taper over the open waters sunday morning and
afternoon as 30.4 inch high pressure settles into the western
great lakes. said high will move east of lake michigan sunday
night into monday as 29.8 inch low pressure builds in the
northern great plains, resulting in a south to southwest wind
shift. 25-30 knot gusts are possible during the day monday, though
gale potential is low at this time. winds will shift out of the
west-northwest and weaken tuesday through tuesday night as the
next area of high pressure moves into the northern great plains.
