open lake forecast for lake michigan
national weather service milwaukee/sullivan wi
245 pm cst sat dec 13 2025

for waters beyond five nautical miles of shore on lake michigan.

waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.synopsis...

brisk northwest winds and heavy freezing spray will continue
across all open waters through sunday morning as arctic high
pressure around 30.8 inches slowly builds down through the
northern plains into iowa and low pressure of 29.9 inches exits
through quebec.

winds will gradually ease sunday afternoon and evening as high
pressure moves into the ohio valley. low pressure then enters the
hudson bay as high pressure exits, bringing brisk southwest winds
late sunday night into monday. a gale watch is in effect for this
time frame. a brief period of lighter winds develop monday night,
but low pressure around 29.2 inches develops and progresses
eastward across southern canada into tuesday, bringing an
additional round of brisk southwest winds and gale potential,
especially across the northern half. winds diminish into wednesday
as low pressure exits, but become gusty and southwesterly again
thursday as an additional low pressure system progresses across
the northern plains.
