...chance of showers and thunderstorms across southwest
california wednesday and thursday...
an upper low west of baja california will slowly move northward
toward the southwest california coast through tuesday...bringing
a possibility of showers and thunderstorms to much of the area
wednesday into thursday. while coast and valley areas will have a
slight chance of showers and thunderstorms...higher chances will
exist across the mountains during the afternoon and evening hours
each day. there will also be a slight chance of mountain
thunderstorms for los angeles and ventura counties tuesday
afternoon and evening.
as southerly flow ahead of the low pressure system brings
increasing moisture and instability into the area...there will be
a potential for heavy downpours with any thunderstorms that
develop. strong south flow on wednesday will result in storms
moving fairly quickly. however as flow aloft begins to weaken on
thursday...the flash flood potential will increase over the
mountains and desert due to slower moving storms. the heavy rain
will also result in a risk of flash flooding and debris flows in
recent burn areas.
rain is expected to diminish thursday night into early friday as
the system shifts southeast of the area.
please stay tuned to the latest national weather service forecasts
and statements as this storm continues to develop.
