...potential for strong wind this weekend for southwest washington
and northwest oregon...
a low pressure system is forecast to develop well off the
northern california coast friday and move northeast toward the
oregon and washington coast friday night...and then move inland
saturday. there is the potential for high wind along the coast and
windy conditions in the willamette valley and southwest washington
interior lowlands. there is still plenty of uncertainty regarding
the strength and timing of this system. should high winds
occur...downed trees and power outages would be possible. at this
time it looks like the strongest wind would occur late saturday
afternoon through the evening.
visit www.weather.gov/portland for updates.

...strong winds in the sacramento valley and over the higher
sierra on saturday with light snowfall at pass levels...
an early season pacific frontal system will be moving into
northern california late tonight and saturday. although this
system is not expected to produce significant amounts of
precipitation...it will produce a period of fairly strong winds
from mid day saturday through early saturday evening. in the
northern and central sacramento valley winds of 20 to 30 mph with
gusts up to 40 mph are forecast. over the higher sierra...some
areas could see winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts as high as 60
mph saturday afternoon and night.
as the main frontal system passes saturday night...snow levels
will be dropping and could get down to the major pass levels by
sunday morning. as a result...the major sierra passes could see an
inch or two of snowfall around the 6500 to 7000 foot snow level.
even this light amount of snowfall could cause travel issues if
not prepared. if traveling through the sierra late saturday night
or sunday morning...carry tire chains and be prepared for travel
delays.
