and great basin wednesday night and thursday with strong winds 
possible thursday in southeast oregon and southwest idaho. all 
areas will become very windy, but the strongest winds are 
currently indicated for the treasure valley and owyhee county.

* winds...west or northwest 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph.

* timing...late thursday morning through thursday afternoon.

* impacts...travel hazard for high profile vehicles, or on north-
  south roads due to cross winds.

the national weather service in reno has issued a wind advisory,
which is in effect from 7 am to 11 pm pdt thursday. 

* timing: winds will increase thursday morning with the strongest
  winds expected with the passage of a strong cold front mid to
  late morning.

* winds: west 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph shifting northwest by
  early afternoon behind the front. 

* waves on pyramid lake: 2 to 4 feet. highest waves on eastern and
  southern shores. 

* impacts: crosswinds may result in travel impacts for high
  profile vehicles and areas of wind shear for aviation. small
  boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and
  should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.


precautionary/preparedness actions...

now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio
furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds
increase which could blow these items away. the best thing to do
is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and
water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in
the event of a power outage.
