* winds and seas...north winds 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 45
kt. seas 6 to 11 feet.
a storm watch is issued when the risk of storm force winds of
48 to 63 knots has significantly increased...but the specific
timing and/or location is still uncertain. it is intended to
provide additional lead time for mariners who may wish to
consider altering their plans.

...gale warning now in effect until midnight est sunday night...
* location...coastal ocean waters south of long island...eastern
long island sound...and the bays of long island.
* winds...north 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 45 kt.
* seas...8 to 12 feet on the atlantic ocean and 4 to 6 feet on
eastern long island sound.
* timing...the strongest winds and highest seas are forecast this
afternoon through sunday afternoon.
a gale warning means sustained winds or frequent gusts of 34 to
47 kt are expected or occurring. operating a vessel in gale
conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. it
is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience
seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
