the national weather service in jackson has issued a
* flash flood watch for portions of east central kentucky...
south central kentucky and southeast kentucky...including the
following areas...in east central kentucky...bath...elliott...
estill...fleming...menifee...montgomery...powell and rowan. in
south central kentucky...laurel...mccreary...pulaski...
rockcastle...wayne and whitley. in southeast kentucky...clay...
jackson...knox...lee...morgan...owsley and wolfe.
* through sunday afternoon.
* an upper level disturbance will pull abundant moisture northward
over parts of central and eastern kentucky over the next 24 hours
resulting in periods of showers and thunderstorms with locally
heavy rainfall likely. in the watch area...rainfall amounts of 1 to
2 inches with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches are possible.
periods of very heavy rainfall may lead to isolated flash flooding
of small creeks and streams and poor draining urban areas.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. flash flooding is a very dangerous situation...
especially at night. you should monitor later forecasts and be
prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

...heavy rainfall expected to develop overnight across much of
central and east central kentucky...
.a plume of tropical moisture will continue to pump copious
amounts of moisture from the gulf of mexico into the ohio valley.
multiple upper level disturbances will move northeastward across
the region yielding round of showers and thunderstorms. with such
rich moisture in place...torrential rainfall will occur with the
thunderstorms overnight and into early sunday morning.

* through sunday morning
* a surge of tropical moisture from the gulf of mexico will bring
copious amounts of moisture to the ohio valley overnight and
sunday morning. rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected
overnight and these storms will be capable of producing
torrential rainfall. widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2
inches will be possible. however...in areas that see repeated
rounds of thunderstorm activity 3 to 4 inches of rainfall may
occur.
* creeks and rivers may overcome their banks and into roadways
within the flash flood watch area. in addition...typical flood
prone areas and other low-lying spots may quickly flood as heavy
rainfall passes through the region.
